What should you know about the Sports?
Sports Alternative
Sports Alternative programming allows student athletes to maintain a flexible school schedule alongside rigorous sport-specific training from certified coaches. Sports Alternative is ideal for students who are preparing for advanced training or competitions. Students must be in grade 3-12, and have sports experience to be eligible for the program. Parents will pay additional fees to cover sports training, equipment, transportation, and facility rentals. Sports Alternative is offered at Ross Sheppard, Donnan, and Vimy Ridge Academy. Shadow days are offered so prospective students may experience the program. Vimy Ridge Academy offers Sports Alternative programming for its many sports academies, including baseball, dance, and hockey.

Vimy Elite
A program for elite student athletes who perform at a provincial, national, or international level in their chosen sport. The program allows for a flexible school and assignment schedule to avoid conflict with the student’s training and competition timelines. Students are not eligible for Vimy Elite if they practice a sport for which Vimy Ridge already has an existing academy. Vimy Elite is available for student athletes who practice diving, figure skating, and others. Shadow Days are available.

More Information
High school sports allow students to stay active, make friends, find a sense of community, and pursue their passions. Students who practice sports in high school also have more opportunities for scholarships, and a competitive edge for their university applications. However, high school sports can be competitive: community league sports are also a great option!
